SOP of Operation and Cleaning of Pneumatic Conveying System

1.0 Objective:
  • To lay down a procedure for Operation and Cleaning of Pneumatic Conveying System.
2.0 Scope:
  • This SOP shall be applicable for Operation and Cleaning of Pneumatic Conveying System in Manufacturing Area at Boostyourpharmagyan Pharmaceutical Limited.
3.0 Responsibility:
  • Operator Production :
To perform operation and cleaning of Pneumatic Conveying System as per this SOP.
  • Officer/Executive Production
To check that operation and cleaning of Pneumatic Conveying System as per this SOP.
  • Officer /Above IPQA
To verify that operation and cleaning procedure of Pneumatic Conveying System as per this SOP.

4.0 Accountability:
  • Head Production and Head QA shall be accountable for compliance of this SOP.
5.0 Procedure:
Precaution:
  • During set up, maintenance, or cleaning of equipment, disconnect pneumatic conveying system from electrical power source.
  • Do not touch butterfly valve.
  • All gaskets should be inspected for cracks, cuts and wear to avoid any leakage.
  • Wear PPEs during operation and cleaning of pneumatic conveying system.
Set up:
  • Fix the pickup wand with flexible hose pipe.
  • Place the pickup wand in the bin of the material to be conveyed.
  • Inspect convey line to ensure that the proper connection from the pickup wand to the inlet of the vacuum receiver has been made properly.
  • Check proper functioning of butterfly valve fitted in vacuum receiver.
  • Check the compressed air supply should not be less than 6 bars.
  • Verify that all pneumatic, mechanical and electrical connections have been made in accordance with the appropriate pneumatic conveying system supplied drawings and procedures.
  • Ensure that the proper pneumatic tubing connections have been made to the 4 way vacuum select valves shall be charge valves and pulse filter clean assembly for both the Pneumatic Conveying System.
  • Ensure that the proper electrical connection has been made to the vacuum pump solenoid valve for filter cleaning assembly and powder level sensor for both the pneumatic conveying system.
Operation of Pneumatic Conveying system:
  • Turn the power switch “ON” provided on control.
  • Place the pickup wand in the Processing Bin / HDPE drum of the material to be conveyed.
  • Vacuum pump package shall be started for vacuum creation in the pipe and the receiver.
  • The resulting negative pressure in the system shall cause material and air to flow from the pickup wand to the vacuum receiver.
  • Upon completion of the timed convey cycle, the control panel shall be in sequence to the discharge cycle.
  • Once discharge cycle has begun, the loss of vacuum shall be permit the actuator operated butterfly valve to open, allowing the conveyed material to gravity flow into the vibro sifter.
  • Once the discharge cycle completed, the control panel shall energizing solenoid to initiate a pulse to clean the filter.
  • This sequence shall be continuing until stopped by the user or the completion of the total numbers of settled cycle in timer panel in Auto Mode.
  • Record the operation details in Equipment Log book.
Cleaning of Pneumatic Conveying system:
Cleaning shall be performed as per validated cleaning procedure.
Type A Cleaning
"Cleaning during batch changeover of same product, lower strength to higher strength (provided that colour/flavour is same) and post maintenance of non-product contact parts".
  • Remove ´TO BE CLEANED” status label from the equipment.
  • Dismantle pick up wand, filter bag and hose pipe.
  • Dedust the internal and external surface to the maximum possible extent, with the designated vacuum cleaner / dry lint free cloth.
  • Clean the operating panel, electric cable and pneumatic conveying system connectors with dry lint free cloth.
  • Check for visual cleanliness of the cleaned parts if any loosely stick material of previous batch observed then repeats the 3 to 5 above steps.
  • After visual inspection, affix “CLEANED” status label on equipment.
  • Record cleaning details in Equipment log book.
Type B Cleaning:
"Cleaning during changeover of different products with different active ingredients, colour, and flavour, higher to lower strength, post maintenance of product contact parts, when the next product is not known and after fumigation".
  • Remove “TO BE CLEANED” status label from the equipment.
  • Dismantle pick up wand, vacuum filter bag and hose pipe.
  • Clean pick up wand with potable water and if any residues of previous product found wipe all part with wet lint free cloth dipped in potable water.
  • Hose pipe shall be cleaned from inside of pipe, by flushing with potable water.
  • Finally flush with purified water.
  • Rinse all dismantled parts with purified water and mop with 70% v/v iso propyl alcohol (IPA) solution.
  • Dry all dismantled parts with IR Dryer/Compressed Air.
  • Clean the vacuum filter bags with potable water.
  • Finally rinse the vacuum filter bag with purified water and dry filter bag in dryer.
  • Clean the external surface of main body with wet lint free cloth.
  • Clean the operating panel, electric cable with dry lint free cloth.
  • Check for visual cleanliness of the cleaned parts if any traces of previous batch material observed then repeat steps of 3 to 11.
  • After visual checking, intimate to Officer/Executive IPQA for Swab/Rinse sampling as per current version of SOP.
  • After release of Swab/Rinse sample, affix “CLEANED” status label on equipment.
  • Re-clean if not used within 48 hours.
  • Record cleaning details in Equipment log book.
6.0 List of Annexure:
Not Applicable.
